MARILYN MONROE |
|
Marilyn Leaving Columbia Presbyterian Hospital
March, 1961 I was working for Paris-Match Magazine when I made this photograph. Not wanting to compete with the mass of onlookers, photographers, TV reporters and film press, I climbed the stairs of an apartment building across the street and rang a doorbell of a 4th floor, street-facing, apartment. I had to convince the elderly homemaker to let me inside to shoot pictures from her windows. When I mentioned that Marilyn Monroe was about to exit the hospital she quickly ushered me to her living room, supplied me with a pillow to rest my arms, and I shot these images.
